Note: For master students with large interdisciplinary span, alternative degree courses with no more than 5 credits assigned by their supervisor should be approved by academic Degree Committee. Neural engineering frontiers and practice, Medical imaging technology and practice, Micro-nano medical frontier and practice are compulsory courses, the 3 credits of the three courses are not included in the professional course credits and total credit. The biomedical engineering frontier dynamic lectures (84030022) is a compulsory course, this course opens every 1.5 year, please check the course information in course selection. |
(5)Interdisciplinary specialized courses (No less than 3 credits)
General selection of information and medical professional courses are preferred, students can also choose biology, materials, mechanics, and other courses. Interdisciplinary courses in technology can be counted as specialized courses required for the degree, while courses in foreign languages, humanities, social sciences, and management are not counted as required credits.
5、Remedial courses and optional courses
Those who lack the professional foundation at the undergraduate level in this subject should take remedial courses under the guidance of the tutor (generally 2~3 courses) without credit.
In addition to the total credits required for the degree, students can choose the graduate courses offered by all the departments of the university and record the credits not required for the degree.
6、Two weeks of intensive discipline and professional education, consisting of the following three parts:
1) Internship;
2) Attending Lectures and seminars on subjects, specialties and modern trends
3) Professional literature retrieval, reading, and write a reading report under the guidance of the tutor.
7、Dissertation work and requirements:
1). The purpose of the thesis work is to help make the students earn a more comprehensive training in scientific research, and cultivate the ability to engage in scientific research or independently undertake specialized technical work.
2). Thesis preparation should begin early. Graduate students should formulate the dissertation work plan under the guidance of their supervisor. The content includes course selection, literature reading, topic selection report, social investigation, scientific research, research methods, experimental means, theoretical analysis, text summary, and other requirements as well as schedule.
3). About half a year after the master thesis topic report, a mid-term examination should be conducted by the department or institute organization to check the progress of paperwork and adjust the quantitative indicators of paper objectives.
4). After meeting the requirements of the course and making the topic selection report according to relevant regulations for one year, passing the mid-term examination, and completing the master thesis work at the same time, students can apply for defense.
8、Regulations on postgraduate degree course grades
In order to ensure the quality and strengthen the construction of postgraduate study style, we have the following requirements for the degree course scores of postgraduate students in our department:
1. For bachelor-straight-to-master students, the single subject score lower than grade C shall not be more than 4 credits. For non-graduating undergraduate students or on-the-job students, the single subject score lower than grade C shall not be more than 6 credits.
2. Those who fail to meet the above requirements will be allowed to retake the course with a grade below level C.
9、Academic Activities
Master students should give at least two academic reports within the scope of the institute. Generally, they should listen to more than 10 academic reports or thesis defense meetings, two of which are cross-level academic reports. After each academic report, the student should write a summary of no less than 500 words, which should be signed by the tutor and kept by himself. The uniformly formulated academic report record form shall be signed by the supervisor, and the summary and record form shall be submitted to the graduate student section of the department to record the score after completion. The academic report record form is prepared accordingly by the system.
To broaden the academic horizon of graduate students, the department organizes and implements an academic rotation system. For specific implementation, please refer to "Postgraduate Rotation Plan of Biomedical Engineering Department of School of Medicine".
10、Topic Selection
After admission, students will determine the specific topic and complete the topic selection report after in-depth investigation and research under the guidance of the instructor (group). The duration of thesis research is usually no less than one year. According to the “Regulations of Tsinghua University on Postgraduate Training”, the assessment team should be composed of at least 3 associate professors or experts with equivalent titles or above. If there is a major change in the subject of the dissertation, a new topic report should be made.
The topic selection report should include literature review, topic selection, and its significance, main research contents and methods, work characteristics and difficulties, stage research progress, expected results, and innovations, etc. Students should read massive literature work, write a written report of no less than 5,000 words, and report at the topic selection report meeting. The selected topic reports are carried out within the scope of first-level disciplines and are reviewed by an assessment team organized by the department or research institute. Within one week after the completion of the report, submit a written report and topic selection report form to the teaching office of the school for the record.
Those who fail to pass the topic selection report can apply again 3 months later. For those who still fail to pass the topic selection report before the end of the second academic year or those who still fail to pass the topic selection report after attending two times in total, they should plan to drop their master's degree. Master students can apply for withdrawal, otherwise, they will be dismissed by the school.
11、Mid-term review
According to "Tsinghua University postgraduate training work regulations", before the end of the third semester, an assessment team will be organized to check the students' comprehensive ability, paperwork progress, work attitude, energy input, and other aspects of the inspection. Those who pass the examination will be allowed to continue the thesis work.
The examination team is composed of at least 3 teachers with the title of associate professor or above, and the mid-term examination of papers is generally conducted in October and May each year. With the consent of the examination team and the supervisor, the quantitative indicators of the paper's work objectives can be adjusted, and large adjustments in the paper require a new opening report.
Those who fail the mid-term examination can apply again 3 months later. Students who fail to pass the mid-term examination before the end of the fifth semester, or who fail to pass the mid-term examination after attending the mid-term examination two times in total, should plan to drop their master's degree. Master students who meet the application conditions can apply for graduation. Master students who do not meet the application conditions can apply for withdrawal, otherwise, they will be dismissed by the school.
12、Oral Defense Requirements
Those who meet the requirements of the above courses, and have conducted the topic selection report as well as passed the mid-term review according to the relevant provisions, and have completed their thesis work, can enter the stage of defense.
1. Students can apply for defense after the approval of the tutor two months before the defense. The student should then arrange a summary report of the paperwork. The report should give the completion of the quantitative indicators of the paperwork objectives, and fill in the paper summary report form (unified by the Biomedical Engineering Department). If the supervisor deems it necessary, he can use the evaluation method to determine whether the defense can be timely.
2. Graduate students should write their thesis under the specified time, apply for defense approval according to the unified requirements of the university, and organize defense according to the requirements.
If the defense cannot be completed on time, the applicant shall apply for the defense according to the unified requirements of the Graduate School of the University.
